Phoenix Tribal Update : Lorwyn Eclipsed

Syrix Phoenix Tribal: Rise from the Ashes

Unleashing the full potential of the flame with strategic budget upgrades.

Fueling the Eternal Flame

Syrix, Carrier of the Flame is more than just a tribal leader; he is a graveyard engine waiting to be ignited. While the base deck is a solid start, the newest tech from Lorwyn Eclipsed allows us to transform this flock of birds into a lethal, recurring army. In this guide, we are looking at high-impact, one-to-one swaps designed to maximize Syrix’s “leaves the graveyard” triggers without breaking the bank.

Land Base Update: Precision Fixing

Replacing slow tap-lands with untapped dual color sources under $1.50.

Card InCard OutThe Reasoning

Tainted Peak

(FIXING UPGRADE)

Rakdos Guildgate

(Slow Tap Land)

Conditional Speed: As long as you control a Swamp, Tainted Peak enters untapped and provides Red or Black. Perfect for 2-color decks running Black.

Sulfurous Springs

(SPEED UPGRADE)

Cinder Barrens

(Strictly Worse)

Immediate Access: Pain Lands have dropped significantly in price. It allows you to cast Syrix on-curve without any delay.

Exotic Orchard

(CONSISTENCY)

Evolving Wilds

(Slow Fixing)

Multiplayer Value: In a typical pod, Exotic Orchard will almost always give you the colors you need while entering the battlefield ready to use.

Why these changes?

  • Consistency: We are reducing “dead turns” where you can’t play anything because your land entered tapped.
  • Pips Matter: Syrix requires . These lands ensure you have the right colors at the right time.

Core Upgrades: Engines of Rebirth

Maximizing tribal synergy, graveyard value, and explosive damage with Lorwyn Eclipsed tech.

Card InCard OutThe Reasoning

Gathering Stone

(TRIBAL ENGINE)

Big Score

(One-Shot Spell)

Permanent Value: Provides mana reduction and graveyard setup every upkeep. Much better than a one-time mana burst.

Twilight Diviner

(VALUE MULTIPLIER)

Immortal Phoenix

(Slow Recursion)

Double Rebirth: Every time a Phoenix returns from the grave, you get a free token copy. Immense board presence for 3 mana.

Bloodline Bidding

(MASS RECURSION)

Heirloom Blade

(Random & Slow)

The Finisher: A massive one-sided reanimation spell. Use Convoke to bring back the whole flock for next to nothing.

Collective Inferno

(DAMAGE DOUBLER)

Magma Phoenix

(Friendly Fire)

Lethal Output: Doubles all damage from Phoenixes. This makes Syrix’s pings 6 damage each and doubles your Warstorm Surge triggers!

Blackblade Reforged

(SYNERGY KILLER)

Transmogrant’s Crown

(Minimal Impact)

Power Scaling: Syrix’s first ability deals damage equal to its power. By equipping Blackblade, you turn every graveyard trigger into a massive 10+ damage missile to any target.

Upgrade Strategy

  • The Synergy Loop: We are building a machine that rewards you for playing your tribe correctly, focusing on “leaves the graveyard” triggers.
  • Unstoppable Damage: With both mass-reanimation and damage multipliers, the deck can now threaten a win from out of nowhere.

Battle Simulation: Upgraded vs Stock

Data-driven results from 1,000 simulated games to lethal damage.

Metric Stock List Upgraded List
Avg. Turn to Lethal Turn 11.0 Turn 9.2
Fastest Kill (Goldfish) Turn 11.0 Turn 8.0
Consistency Rating Low High

Analysis of the Data

  • Turn Advantage: The upgraded deck is nearly 2 turns faster on average. In Commander, being two turns ahead often means the difference between winning and being knocked out by a combo.
  • Explosive Ceiling: With Blackblade Reforged and Collective Inferno, the simulation reached lethal damage as early as Turn 8. The original list lacked these high-damage ceiling pieces.
  • Resilience: While not shown in raw turns, the Bloodline Bidding inclusion significantly improved recovery speed in simulations where a board wipe was assumed.

Final Verdict: A Flock Reborn

Consistency and explosive damage are the keys to victory.

The Path Forward

By implementing these upgrades, your Syrix deck shifts from a casual tribal build to a resilient machine that thrives on board wipes and rewards graveyard manipulation. Whether you are doubling your damage with Collective Inferno or sniping targets with a Blackblade Reforged missile, your opponents will learn to fear the rebirth of the flock.
