The Cabbage Merchant

Halfling Food Tribal Update : Avatar: The Last Airbender

Update (Avatar: The Last Airbender):

With the release of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Halfling Food Tribal is getting an upgrade!

The Cabbage Merchant has great synergy with our Halfling Food Tribal as he is an amazing Food engine and on top of that he can tap Food for mana, turning him into a ramp engine. Whenever an opponent casts a noncreature spell, we create a Food token and by tapping two untapped Foods we control at instant speed, we add one mana of any color. A must-have card for every dedicated Food build.

I feel really bad for cutting Sméagol, Helpful Guide, because he is a great flavor card and a good choice for our build, but since his first ability activates on death trigger of our creatures in our turn, that sounds optimal for a sacrifice build.

Unlucky Cabbage Merchant has great synergy with Food tokens as on ETB he creates a Food, and whenever we sacrifice a Food, we may search our library for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Although if we search our library this way, we put him on the bottom of our library, there’s a catch here. While the ability is on the stack, we can in response sacrifice multiple foods to get multiple lands. In addition, we can also block with him and then sacrifice a Food to shuffle him before he dies. Great utility card for our Halfling Food Tribal.

Prize Pig gets cut because we had to cut something and it seems to rank a bit lower in Food synergy than  Unlucky Cabbage Merchant. At this point every cut is already a great card and there are no easy swaps.

Now you can buy the upgrade cards with a click of a button!
